Residence Hall Move-In and Move-Out at UT

UT runs move-in through University Housing and Dining’s Mooov-In. Students schedule a check-in time in the housing portal, pick up keys (at UFCU Disch-Falk Field during centralized check-in), park in an assigned garage and then unload at the hall. For fall 2026, centralized check-in ran August 21 and 22, with paid early check-in starting August 17. The 2026-27 residence hall contract ends May 4, 2027. Always check UT’s current schedule, because dates change every year.

Two things matter most for planning. First, UT lists elevators only in some halls (Duren, Jester East, Jester West, Kinsolving, San Jacinto and Dobie Twenty21), so a room on an upper floor of another hall means stairs. Second, parking is tight and garages have height limits. We go over your hall, floor and unloading rules during the pre-move survey and plan the crew and timing to fit.

West Campus, North Campus and Riverside Apartment Moves

Many UT students move off campus after their first year, and each neighborhood moves differently:

West Campus: the most student-heavy area, with mid-rise and high-rise apartments west of Guadalupe. Many buildings require a reserved elevator and loading dock time, so we confirm the reservation and building rules before move day. If the building asks for a certificate of insurance, we can provide one.
North Campus and Hyde Park: older complexes, fourplexes and rental houses north of campus. Expect stairs, narrow walkways and street parking.
Riverside: larger garden-style complexes southeast of downtown along East Riverside Drive, often with long walks from the parking lot to the unit.

Moving Between UT and Home

Whether home is in Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, the Valley or right here in Central Texas, we load at your family home, drive to Austin and set up the room or apartment, then do the reverse at the end of the year. See our long-distance moving page for moves across Texas.

Small Moves and Furniture Assembly

Student moves are often small: a bed, a desk, a dresser, a couch shared by roommates and a stack of boxes. We pad and wrap every piece, take apart what will not fit through a doorway or into an elevator, and put it back together in the new place. We also take single-item moves, and we assemble new flat-pack furniture that is still in the box.

We don’t offer storage of any kind, including summer storage. We move your things straight from one address to the next.

Booking a Student Move

Move-in and move-out days: we work the mid-August move-in weekends and the days after May finals, and early starts are possible.
Parents can book and pay: a parent can book and pay for the move while the student is the one there on move day.
Roommates: we move several roommates on one truck, and each roommate can pay separately.
Certificate of insurance: if an apartment building asks for one, we can provide it.
