Moving to Austin from Out of State
New job in Austin, family in Buda, or a fresh start in Kyle or San Marcos? Elite Star Movers helps people move to Central Texas from anywhere in the United States. We pick up at your current home, wherever it is, and deliver to Buda, Austin, Kyle, San Marcos, and the surrounding metro.
We’re a family owned and operated moving company based in Buda with more than 20 years of experience. Central Texas is home for us, so the delivery end of your move is the part we know well: the neighborhoods, the HOA rules, the downtown loading docks, and the summer heat. Our slogan is simple, We Can Handle It, and our motto guides every job: Serving People & Protecting Furniture, Peace by Piece.
We Pick Up Anywhere in the US
Coast to coast or one state over, we come to you. Common starting points for moves into the Austin area include California, Florida, New York, Illinois, Colorado, and the big Texas metros like Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. If your city isn’t listed here, that’s fine. Tell us your starting address when you request a quote and we’ll plan the move from there.
We deliver throughout the Austin metro and the I-35 corridor, including:
- Buda and Kyle: our home base and the next town over. See our guides to moving to Buda and moving to Kyle.
- Austin: South Austin, East Austin, downtown high-rises, and the suburbs around the city.
- San Marcos and the surrounding area: along with the smaller towns between Austin and San Antonio.
Moving to Austin from Another Texas City
A lot of people moving to Austin are already Texans. If you’re coming from Dallas, Houston, or another Texas city, your move stays inside the state, which keeps the paperwork simple. Our route pages cover both directions:
- Dallas to Austin and Austin to Dallas movers
- Houston to Austin and Austin to Houston movers
- Long-distance moves within Texas

It Starts with a Pre-Move Survey
Every move starts with a pre-move survey. We go over what is moving, the access at your current home and your new one (stairs, elevators, parking, long walks), and any special items like pianos, large furniture, or artwork. That way the crew, the truck, and the plan fit your move before anyone hits the road. If you’re moving from another state, we do the survey with you by video call, so you can walk us through your home from wherever you are.
The more complete your inventory, the more accurate your quote. Use our online quote form to list your rooms and large items, or call us and we’ll walk through it together. Long-distance moves come with our flat-rate price guarantee, with the details confirmed in your written quote.
How Scheduling and Delivery Work
A move from another state has two dates to plan: when we load at your current home and when we deliver to your new one. Here’s how it works in general:
- Request your quote. Send your inventory, your starting address, your Central Texas address, and your preferred dates.
- Pre-move survey and written quote. We review what is moving and the access at both homes (by video call for out-of-state homes), then send your written quote.
- Book your pickup date. Once you book, we confirm the day we load and talk through a realistic delivery window for your route. Distance, the time of year, and road and weather conditions all affect timing, so we plan it with you rather than guess.
- Load day. Our crew pads, wraps, and loads your belongings in a planned order. Hector Jr leads our moves in the field.
- Delivery. We stay in touch while your belongings are on the road, then unload room by room and reassemble furniture we took apart.
Book as early as you can, especially for late spring and summer, when demand is highest. Elite Star Movers does not offer storage, so line up your lease or closing date before you lock in the pickup.
What to Know About Arriving in Austin
HOA and apartment move-in rules
Many neighborhoods in Buda, Kyle, and the Austin suburbs have HOA rules about where moving trucks can park and what hours moves can happen. Apartment communities often have set move-in hours and may ask for a reserved elevator or a certificate of insurance (COI). Ask your HOA or leasing office for the rules in writing, and send them to us before your move.
Downtown high-rises and loading docks
Moving into a downtown Austin condo or high-rise means loading docks, freight elevators with reservation windows, and a building manager who wants a COI before move day. Reserve your dock and elevator time as soon as you have a delivery window, and send us the building’s exact COI requirements. Our downtown Austin movers page explains how we plan these moves.
Summer heat
Central Texas summers are long and hot. On a summer delivery we start early, keep the truck moving, and get your belongings inside quickly. Plan to carry heat-sensitive items like candles, medications, vinyl records, and some electronics in your car, and keep plenty of water around on delivery day.
Your first weeks as a Texan
Set up electricity, water, and internet before you arrive. New residents also need to get a Texas driver’s license and register their vehicles within set deadlines, so check the official Texas state websites for the current requirements after you move. Our out-of-state moving checklist has more planning tips.
